Approaching their 40th year, Hiroshima, a group whose music falls between R&B, pop, world music, and jazz, has long had its own niche. The band integrates traditional Japanese instruments into their musical blend and has created a rich sound both utterly unique and irresistibly relatable. Worldwide sales in excess of 4 million, multiple Gold records and mutli-Grammy nominations, attests to their appeal. In the four decades since Hiroshima first convened, the Los Angeles-based ensemble of Dan Kuramoto (keyboards/ woodwinds/ composer/ producer), virtuoso June Kuramoto (koto/ composer), Kimo Cornwell (piano/keyboards/composer), Danny Yamamoto drums/percussion), Dean Cortez (bass) have blended jazz, R&B, pop, and rock with traditional Japanese folk music and instruments. The resulting sound was a pioneering voice in the contemporary world music movement of the late 20th century. For the 40th Year tour Hiroshima longtime member of our Hiroshima Family the incredible Land Richards will join them on drums. Danny is going to shift over to taiko, percussion and keyboards to allow them to enlarge and embellish the material and keep the vibe intact. Ever evolving, the multi Grammy-nominated group, highlighted by the sound of June Kuramotos shimmering koto (noted by Stanley Clarke to be the worlds best) creates music and sounds totally unique--with depth, heart and soul.
